Today, I Interviewed Walter Akana. He is a career and life strategist who works primarily with mid-career individuals who want to achieve more self direction in their careers and lives. He has more than 25 years of diverse experience, and is a Reach Certified Personal Branding and Online Identity Strategist; as well, he is an RPS trained retirement coach and has a Master’s degree from Columbia University.

Mohammed: I read “the passion that pays the bills” from your Facebook profile, I love what you said. Can you tell us how can we find our passion and connect it to our expertise? And how can we start a brand new day with the gauge referring to 100% passion?

Walter: I think that many people are intuitively aware of activities that “fire them up” – both at work and in other parts of their lives. Generally, it’s those activities where they become so absorbed that they don’t see the time go by. Yet, it is our passions that can drive fulfillment and accomplishment, if we let them.

The first step is awareness. One way to obtain that awareness is to undertake a personal branding process which involves both introspection and 360 feedback. Introspection can help uncover one’s passions and especially how they’re tied to one’s vision for the world, purpose in life, values, and motivated skills. Examining feedback from others can provide even more clarity about the way our passions connect to expertise and the value we bring to others.

As for setting that passion gauge to 100%, I think that’s the natural result of using our clarity about what excites us to produce value for others!

Mohammed: Social networks can hurt more than help our online identity. What do you advise people who throw negative comments about their boss publicly? And what you recommend to employees who hate their job/boss, but don’t want to quit?

Walter: Generally speaking, my advice for people in managing their online identity is to keep it positive! In fact, like other online identity strategists, I stress cleaning updigital dirtand building a positive online identity that reflects well on who they are and what they offer to others.

I watch Kung Fu Panda every time it appears on Show Time Furious Fivechannels, I watched it at the cinema and to be happy, I bought the DVD 🙂

The 20th times I saw it, I realized that Panda has one of the powerful personal brand and a lesson should be learned from the character. I will share some attributes that shows how Panda brand himself to become the legendary dragon worrier.

Passion: Panada (Po) always think big and dream to become one of the furious five, his passion was unlimited and that’s lead him to become what he want to be. Po lives in the future job that was not even possible for him, Po loves Kung Fu and not making noodle.

Believe: Master Oogway believed in Po’s skills and that he will save the Vally. Oogway told Master Shifu that Po cant stop Tai Lung unless he believes in Po because that’s all the power he need to become the dragon worrier. Also, he told him “If we never try, we will not know, he will wiling to do if you guide it.” Po has unique skills, Po has unique brand, he just have to believe.

Persistent: He never give up, he started from Level “0” that wasn’t even exist. Po couldn’t see his toes BUT he persisted to build a brand that fit him into the dragon worrier job. Persistence create inspiration and courage to move on and reach success. The real worrier never quit.

Panada TrainingPresence: He show up when they selected the dragon worrier and show up in each training because his passion, believe and persistent was real. His presence was high and he never hide, that’s lead to prove what Master Oogway said “there are no accidents.”

I will end this post with Po’s father quote. “The secret ingredient of my secret ingredient soup is nothing! To make something special, you just have to BELIEVE it is special.”

It is no longer enough to know how to organize your resume content, it is now about how to market your skills, achievements and personality onto a resume that will promote you to employers.

Here are 5 hot tips to create a branded resume for IT specialists:

1 Understand Your Brand: What IT specialty do you want to pursue? Is it security, voice, wireless, service provider, server administration, software developer or something else? Your brand is the promise of an experience that a company will have by hiring you. That promise shows itself by the technical skills you have, Ex: How much $ did you slash from an IT budget? Did you develop a creative solution for managing IT resources? Do you have a leading attitude for managing teams? Once you understand yourself, you can move to the next level.

2 – Create Your Brand: Bingo! Your brand is here. Spend time creating your brand and you will be ahead of the others. There are couple ways to define your unique brand. First, you need to think about what you are doing when you are at your best. Look at the job ads and match what they request for skills in the keywords that define your brand. Second, ask your friend, spouse, co-worker to describe you using only 4-5 words. Ask them to be totally honest and say the first words that come into their mind! The more honest the words are that they say about you, the more unique to you your brand is. Finally, use the online identifier tool, it can be used to gather information related to your brand. Once you have these blocks, you can define your IT resume strategy.

3 – Believe in Your Brand: Before you start selling your IT resume, you must have belief in yourself that your skills, achievements and personality are unique, If you think you are just like any others then you have lost an important factor in nailing your dream job. The IT Industry is one of the biggest career fields and what an IT can achieve in work experience is totally different than other employment. IT personnel are required to solve many diverse problems everyday and there are always more that one solution available to use. IT is a great place to distinguish yourself but it all depends on you.BMC Resume

4 – Sell Your Brand: Your resume should distinguish you from others. The resume you create is your marketing document so to sell yourself well you must market your skills well. If you are struggling with what information to include in your resume, try to compare it to your personal brand statement and see if it illustrates you in action using your keywords and phrases. If the answer is yes, then continue branding. If not, delete that information and brainstorm new keywords. Just a reminder here, let your resume follow Don’t Be Everything to Everyone or no one will invest in you!

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

كل فترة نحصل على شهادة جديدة او خبرة بالعمل أو تدريب. لربما انت بعقد طويل في الشركة ولم تفكر بموضوع السيرة الذاتية. وجود سيرة محدثه على الاقل كل ٣ اشهر شي مهم وأنصح به لان لاسامح الله انت لاتعرف متى تترك الشركة او متى يتم الاستغناء عنك والاهم التحضير للاسوء.

هذه المقاله التي اضعها لكم تختلف عن غيرها لانها جديدة وملخصة ومفيدة. الملاحظات هي لبناء سيرة ذاتية لوظائف عليا بمجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات مثلاً مدير تقني او مدير مشروع وليس الى المبتدئين. طبعاً هناك المئات من الملاحظات لبناء سيرة ذاتية لكن هنا فقط تجد المميز.

اهم فقرة محبطة للدخول الى عالم التوظيف في تقنيات المعلومات هو الوظيفة الاولى، نصيحتي لكم اليوم هي بسيطة ونابعة عن خبرة بسيطة  في التوظيف والتدريب المهني. الذي دفعني للموضوع هو فقدان الثقة بالنفس لدى اكثر العرب وقلة الوظائف والواسطة … الخ

طلاب الجامعات أثناء في الدراسة تفكيرهم هو الوظيفة والمتخرجين الجدد هدفهم التوظيف باسرع وهكذا. لكن سوق العمل المتقلب وغلاء المعيشة وحجج تقليص الميزانية دفع الشركات الى تقليص الرواتب والمميزات وهذا الذي زاد عدد الباحثين عن العمل ودفع اصحاب الخبرة الى منافسة المبتدئين حتى على نفس الوظيفة البدائية
